Maintaining the Duncan Showroom's existance

over our 16 years of being open as an all ages venue, yes, we have had our hand out to the community to aid us in staying open

it is the nature of the arts to be subsidized somehow, and our tax dollars do have an arts component allotted and we are not included in that allotment as a private business

Beats Workin

The Duncan Showroom, 131 Station Street, Duncan BC

an almost acoustic Swing, Roots and Jump Blues trio, based in and around Victoria, BC. Playing and singing material ranging from their own energetic original songs and instrumentals, right down through music of the 1940s and beyond, they keep the beat workin on Acoustic and Archtop Guitars, Upright Bass and 6 & 8 string Steel Guitars.

Beats Workin is:
David K (Vocals, 8-String Steel Guitar, National Steel & Guitar) Touring internationally, performing, writing and recording for over 25 years, David has worked with artists and bands playing Blues to Country, Celtic to Western Swing. Great vocals, fine steel guitar, and well crafted original songs round off his place in the trio. Mark Johnson (Vocals, Upright Bass) Mark’s fine acoustic bass gives a dynamic and exciting drive to the group. Both rhythmic and melodic, it is a strong, vital part of the instrumental mix, and is made only better by his fearless bass solos. A skilled composer, Mark’s instrumentals bring even greater dimension to this trio. Bob de Wolff (Vocals, Acoustic and Archtop Guitars) Bob brings extensive knowledge of Swing and Jump Blues music into the Beats Workin mix, along with solid rhythm and lead guitars, and strong vocals. Fluent in many styles, he is especially drawn to the quirky, light-hearted Swing tunes of the 1940s and 50s.

Powerful chords and delicate guitar melodies float over highway-driving rhythms, carrying with it the anxious conviction of hopefulness bubbling up from below. from Scotland, Findlay Napier "He's good and he's really funny too! He's got that classic brilliant banter with the audience as well. Lovely to hear the storytelling in the songs as well as in between.
