an all ages listening venue

bums in seats is the magic formula for us remaining open and continuing this service to the community

we need as many of you as possible to come to the many concerts we present even if you have not heard of them before....discover music you never knew you liked and create more fan base for the performers who stop in

remember, there is always:

Longevity John’s Finger Snappin’ Toe Tappin’ Money Back Guarantee…

…if you do not like the music within the first ½ hour of the performance, your money will gladly be refunded

BUT…should I or any of my spotters take note that you were seen snapping your fingers, tapping your toes

or making any of those absurd air band facial contortions…

this guarantee becomes null and void…thank you

Shows most often start at 7:30pm and are most always broadcast to our youtube channel ( free of course but financial donations will help keep it 'free'

We intend to present more Sunday matinees as often as possible, usually 3pm start (1 hour concerts)

Tickets may be bought in advance on line, reserved (text 250-597-1554) or try the night of (we can always make room)

If there was ever a time to support live music venues it is now, not only for the sake of the venues or the musicians but for the sake of your own sanity.

Live music heals and maintains a healthy soul

trust we will see many of you soon for as they say ' use it or lose it'
Showroom Productionstag:showroomproductions.ca,2005:Post/59607812019-11-14T13:22:27-08:002023-12-10T10:04:50-08:00Maintaining the Duncan Showroom's existance
over our 16 years of being open as an all ages venue, yes, we have had our hand out to the community to aid us in staying open

it is the nature of the arts to be subsidized somehow, and our tax dollars do have an arts component allotted and we are not included in that allotment as a private business

but this is not your regular theatre

we believe in a venue for new material to be heard, original music to be performed, boundaries to be pushed and all in a 'hip' fashion

we have been open for 16 years so it must have some value to the community and yet it remains a financial struggle to stay a viable venue....and so we always sit with our hands out hoping patrons of the arts as well audience choose to maintain the Duncan Showroom's existence

we have a supporter in Marsha Todd who has given us $5000 just in the last 3 months( she attends as many shows as she wants and trust me she has been satisfied more than enough with the calibre of the entertainment)), another donor of $5000 in the early spring wishes to remain anonymous as does the $8,000 and the 3- $2000 donors towards our arrears fund drive in the late spring....someone has decided to donate $30 a month ongoing on our paypal account....so it seems we are on the road to stability but we actually need more than we are receiving....one way to solve this problem is for people to take more chances on the entertainment we provide by attending those lesser known performers

the other way is to just donate extra monies to the cause....none of us getting rich here , actually continuing to go in the hole......but we believe in what we do for the community is worth it, we hope you do as well

Things I live by:

Upon seeing light at the end of the tunnel … do order more tunnel

When treading on thin ice, you might as well dance

Having just turned 65, I decided that I needed to pursue my dreams and visions with even more intensity and gusto than previously mustered. This is how I see it:

First:
As the community based business downstairs from the Duncan Showroom at 129/131 Station Street will be leaving end of September, the opportunity to expand our potential outreach is within our grasp. Taking advantage of this situation allows us:
-ground level access for elders / handicapped / special needs / youth audiences for various educational inclusive programming and concerts
-opportunity for a dance floor in downtown Duncan for appropriate productions
- a venue for private rentals that can be catered if required
-an opportunity to create local employment through our daily café

Second:
My sense of community acknowledges that arts and cultural development needs happen at a grass roots level and that for over 12 years the Showroom experiences have shown that we are capable of fulfilling those requirements by providing:
-an all ages venue
-affordable costs to the participants,
-a committed creative production staff
- a full professional back line for all to use

Third:
A huge endeavour all of this is and a big increase in monthly rental requirements / hydro / insurance costs….but I believe it is worth it….for the true value of community.

Yes, the Duncan Showroom -upstairs would still be open and available for meetings / theatre / recording purposes / live streams on our very own Duncan Showroom Internet TV and for private functions as well. We have created a gem, recognized by many a touring musician and audience members as to the specialness of this particular venue. We will find the ways to maintain its existence

Fourth:
With the positive results from our involvement in the 4th annual 39 Days of July Cowichan Summer Festival still in the air, our diverse programming appeared to prove what can happen when music is served up in an inclusive fashion. We all discovered our neighbours and found we do live in ‘a rather fun place to be’ .
As many will attest, this Showroom experience has and will continue to benefit us all and can be a template for other communities to follow.

Please help us along financially if possible

Showroom Productionstag:showroomproductions.ca,2005:Post/37109862015-05-19T14:55:32-07:002015-05-19T14:57:06-07:00the 39 Days of July Cowichan Summer Festival Countdown and new DONATE possibilitieswell as I write this, there are 38 days left till the 39 Days of July starts up on June 26th ...yahooo...39 days of 'free to the public' musical entertainment from noon till 8pm in the train station parking lot for over 5 weeks and extra concerts in City Square on 5 of those Wednesday nights as well...we is excited....and during this, there will still be some concerts taking place in the Duncan Showroom....you know, a taster in the park then an all out intimate show in the Showroom at 9:30pm...soooo cool this summer festival thang.
and also....we have added a 'donate ' button on our web site just down from the link for our ustream channel....yes, thru paypal, you can still donate the ticket price of a concert while you sit in the luxury of your own house....and it helps keep us alive,
so even if you if just want to donate monies to help our cause you can do it through this method....simple, easy and so graciously accepted

till later....
enjoy life
thru musicShowroom Productionstag:showroomproductions.ca,2005:Post/33785532014-12-09T11:57:57-08:002015-06-30T19:14:39-07:00so near to 2015how is it December already...? well we is ready...lots of entertainment scheduled for your approval right up and into April 2015...yes we plan on being here for a long time...as well as a good time...haha
raining muchly these next couple of days, makes a fine time to catch music....Blues Tuesday with great players sittin in....Wed. with Gals Who Write Songs hosted by Beverley McKeen struts the abilities of various singer songwriters of the gal pursuasion ,on Thursday Melissa Ruth and Cameron Gunn brings us into songwriting once again...both proficient in their trade...Friday has PixElle returning, attempting to raise some monies for a new cd...and late Friday nite has Shirley Gnome for a special comedy treat...Sat gets us Sarah Scouten doing her cross country tour and then David Gogo's acoustic blues show on Sunday nite....soo much going on....7 nights a week mostly ...so join us for an evening of fun musical times
Showroom Productionstag:showroomproductions.ca,2005:Post/32473822014-10-23T15:23:03-07:002014-10-24T12:30:48-07:00better to start somewhereyep.... this is the beginning of the rants/updates/and any pertinent news I feel like sharing and where it will happen....Newfie guys tonite...acoustic I presume and somehow insights to the island life will creep thru I am sure....Friday has David Gogo bringing his trio and stinging style of electric blues to the showroom ( ear plugs available upon request)...Sunday is 'country' treat as George and Nathan, two veteran sidemen for Canada's greats, bring their magic to our stage....folk/roots/country....most pleasant .....Monday has Jeremy Fisher bringing in his band to strut his new cd....get your tickets for this one...Tuesday is For the Love of Words with host Bill Levity ending its 7th season with a celebration...coolio..( there will also be a celebration upon Nov.s beginning of the 8th season...luv those parties)...Wednesday has young hip hop artists Arizona having one more go before one of their hoamies heads south till late spring, so catch this show for sure....Thursday had comedian Matt Billon returning to the Showroom...always has funny guest with him...and his show? well funny funny funny are the key words...ending the month is 2 screenings of Rocky Horror Picture Show at 9pm and midnite....till November...enjoy lifeShowroom Productions
