Daryl Chonka and his band have broken onto the west coast Canadian music scene in a warm wave of wonderful world rhythms, island-born folkadelia, ocean-deep song writing and larger than life heart.
Hailing from Saltspring Island, the band has successfully launched itself into the world with the depth and talent of a long accomplished collective. Having spent decades writing, producing and playing with many of Canada’s greatest musical legends including Buffy Sainte-Marie, Randy Bachman, Neil Young and The Sadies, Chonka has also produced and played with a host of Africa’s finest musicians including Masauko, Mongezi Ntaka and Arouna Diarra.
Steeped in this vibrant musical experience and backed by some of BC’s finest roots musicians, the bands compositions range from high energy world-flavored dance music to deep, woody & water-coloured Canadiana; the continuity of infectious rhythm, earthy tones and Chonka's warm and engaging lyrical authenticity, combine to create a very unique, yet immediately familiar show that is inspiring to a wide audience.
With Daryl Chonka on vocals, acoustic guitar and keyboards, Daniel Howlett on Vocals and Electric Guitar, Sam Mitchell playing Bass and Flute and Matthew Brain on Drums, this is truly a musically diverse show of high caliber music with a giant heart. Chonka and his band obviously love what they do and have created a moving music experience that is a wonderful and healing balm for the times.
